ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the businesses that are engaged in designing and implementing restoration projects. As discussed in the preceding chapters, public-sector land managers, private landowners, and conservation NGOs all play important roles in the field of restoration. There is substantial overlap among these actors, and the differences in their roles are increasingly blurred by project teams that include all of the above. Nevertheless, there are several aspects of the field unique to businesses. This chapter focuses on the emergence and development of the restoration industry, gives a brief overview of the management of restoration firms, and reflects on the role of innovation and emerging trends in restoration.
