Abstract

The opportunities to study sound recording at the tertiary level are available in a number of guises in education establishments across the globe and can be found on many continents. Whether it is termed Sound Recording, Music Production, Creative Music Technology, Audio Production or just Music Technology, many specialist degree programmes exist, and indeed many music programmes now contain a pathway in which students can elect to study a range of modules related to both the practical and theoretical study of technology in music. The question that is often asked by industry is whether there are opportunities that exist in the audio industry, given the high number of graduates produced by these institutions. This is perhaps partly driven by a perspective of what is the purpose of education.
