ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the course of events that take place during a typical night amongst young people in Greenland when attending a popular music concert by local musicians. The documentation reveals that the ritual process of concert attendance involves a series of phases, from preparation through a post-concert phase. In effect, audiences “perform” their concert attendance as they are involved in the construction of aesthetic experience that articulates with the live music they go to listen to. These practices allow them to reach a sense of unity and community on both a local and national level.
