Abstract

In 2013 the Spanish auteurist film journal Caimán (previously Cahiers du Cinéma España) published a special supplement on the “Other Cinema” in Spain. Transparent in their attempt to confer prestige and create cultural distinction, the various critics praised a young cohort of austere, low budget filmmakers taken to be distinct from an assumed Spanish commercial mainstream.
