ABSTRACT

South Korea has been increasing its aid to the African region rapidly in recent years. In 2013, South Korea committed US$567.76 million in aid to African countries in the form of grants and loans; ten years ago, the commitment was only US$5.2 million. In gross disbursement, the proportion of aid to Africa jumped from 6.62 percent in 2003 to 18.34 percent of South Korea’s bilateral aid in 2013. In 2014, it was recorded as 21.51 percent; the last time that the proportion of aid to Africa in bilateral aid exceeded 20 percent was 1995.
