ABSTRACT

Asian educational systems have received a lot of press attention given that they dominate the educational rankings. Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Macau, Taiwan, South Korea, and Japan usually score at the top in educational ranking systems (OECD, 2010). There is a common stereotype that Asian learners are rote learners and that learning and pedagogy in the Asian setting is old-fashioned, traditional, and didactic. A problem with these notions is that they may represent common stereotypes that do not do justice to the complex and dynamic nature of the Asian educational landscape.
