ABSTRACT

In recent years, the Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) has received much attention from educators and researchers alike. While ITS technology has been utilized in developed countries for quite some time, increasingly, many developing countries have begun to adopt ITS in their education systems. This chapter presents an overview of ITS research in developing countries in Asia. It identifies various research foci within the region and, based on a meta-analysis of empirical research, assesses the effectiveness of ITSs developed or deployed in these regions. The chapter concludes by highlighting some of the limitations of current ITS research and identifies opportunities for further study.
