ABSTRACT

Language-in-education, including language pedagogy, which is an integral part of planning a language-in-education, has been one of the most popular areas of policy making in many contexts, as languages are perceived to have utilitarian values. Numerous studies have been conducted to evaluate the impacts of these policies and the factors which contribute to their impact. These studies provide useful insights into the implementation and impact of language-in-education policies. Building on these studies, this chapter presents a framework which will help investigate and discuss the implementation and impact of a language-in-education policy with the aim of more comparability across studies. The framework draws on general policy studies as well as language-in-education research. The chapter will contribute to building the knowledge base of language-in-education research and practice by providing a tool to better understand and research the phenomena.
