ABSTRACT

The promotion and realization of gender equity education in Taiwan was not achieved by the efforts of the state alone; rather, progress was initiated by social movements and nourished by the endeavors of policymakers, researchers, educators, and non-governmental organizations. As a result, Taiwan has implemented various policies and measures to enhance teachers’ gender awareness and develop relevant teaching materials. This chapter introduces the social context and background of gender equity education development in Taiwan, illustrates the various measures and practices adopted to realize gender equity education, and addresses current challenges, obstacles, and areas in need of future development.
