ABSTRACT
Sexuality education is essential for all students, and this is no exception for Asian sexual minorities, such as lesbian, gay, bisexual and queer (LGBQ) students. Studies have demonstrated that sexuality education has primarily focused on the heterosexual perspective, marginalizing LGBQ students. Very few publications have examined LGBQ students’ sexuality education experiences in Asia, specifically addressing LGBQ-inclusive and rights-based perspectives. None have addressed the issue under the Chinese cultural context, where heterosexism against sexual minorities persists. By increasing this knowledge and understanding, sexuality educators would be in a better position to enhance their frontline practice. This chapter provides an overview on current sexuality education perspectives from the international literature and highlights the experiences of sexuality education of male gay and bisexual adolescents and young adults based on two regional studies from Hong Kong. Recommendations for development of LGBQ-inclusive and rights-based sexuality education programs are made.
