ABSTRACT

Politicians have been utilizing various persuasion techniques to attract voters’ support for centuries. These skills are sometimes seen as unsavory and some political philosophers have postulated that they should have no place in politics whatsoever. Plato was one of the first to denounce the use of persuasion techniques some 2,500 years ago (as cited in Turan, 2014) when he warned “The ruler who is good for anything ought not to beg his subjects to be ruled by him.”
