ABSTRACT

Following the First Gulf War, Christians in Iraq have faced a never-ending series of challenges. This chapter reviews the events and circumstances that have led to a mass exodus of the various communities who have sought to relocate to the West or in the KRG-administered regions of northern Iraq. Whilst particular attention is given to the impact of the Allied offensive in 2002 and the arrival of Da’esh in 2014, both of which have caused massive changes to the demography of the Christian communities, the chapter ends by outlining the new initiatives that have emerged between Christian and Shi’a clergy in Basra and southern Iraq.
