Abstract

Tennis is one of the most widely played sports in the world and tennis events are capable of drawing not only large crowds and demand for tickets but also massive worldwide television audiences. This paper seeks to trace the history of tennis from its start in the royal palaces of your Europe to its spread around the world all the way through to the modern highly professional era. We will explore the milestones as the game grew and diversified, along with the technological advances that have come with the rise of professionalism. Governed by the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the most elite players compete on the professional tour circuit that includes four Grand Slam tournaments. In addition, this paper highlights some of the major figures and players in the history of the sport, the movers and shakers who have changed the game and left impacts that will be felt for generations.
