With 56 ethnic groups, of which 55 are minorities living in a highly diverse landscapes, China today is very rich in terms of tangible and intangible cultural heritage. There are a great variety of languages and dialects, festivals, customs, folklores, beliefs, craftsmanship, performing and visual arts created, maintained and recreated by different groups over thousands of years. Many ICH properties have become symbols of certain ethnic groups and important to their individual and collective identities.
