ABSTRACT
The US energy picture is unique in a number of ways. Until recently replaced by China, the US was the world’s largest consumer of energy. It is also a major producer of energy. In sharp contrast to most other developed industrial countries, US output of natural gas and oil has boomed in recent years, largely as a result of technological advances in shale technology. 1
