If you are studying Christian theology, you will find that Scripture is talked about in your classes, and in the literature you are asked to read, in a wide variety of seemingly incompatible ways. It is not just that different claims are made about the meaning of specific verses or about the likely history behind specific passages. Rather, you will find that you encounter thoroughly different kinds of discussion in different contexts.
