ABSTRACT
In recent years, East Asian democracies have suffered from political polarization. Political polarization refers to the political phenomenon in which competing political parties or political forces gravitate to extreme and uncompromising positions. Since political polarization undermines willingness to compromise or capacity to find a middle ground, it often leads to political deadlock and poor governance.
