ABSTRACT
Human rights are essential elements in the examination of democratisation due to the intrinsic connections between the two. The protection of human rights is a necessary condition for the realisation of democracy and, at the same time, the shift towards the realisation of democracy is a necessary condition for the protection of human rights (Marks and Clapham 2005: 70).
