Poetry, poiesis and physical culture

While ‘realist’ forms of research writing (Sparkes, 2002) dominate the field of physical cultural studies, a number of scholars use alternative forms of representation in their work. Alternative, that is, in the sense that their writing moves beyond the usual forms of communicating research that are consistent with academic prose or quantitative analyses.
