ABSTRACT

Indigenous ecological consciousness persists throughout Indian Country in a variety of diverse and beautiful ways. From on top of the world at the Arctic Circle of Nunavut on Turtle Island (North America) to the tip of South America at Tierra del Fuego, Native Peoples assert their rights to land, culture, and a healthy future for generations to come and for all of the ecological life that creates sacred homelands. Honoring the Prophecies of the Eagle and the Condor, the Prophecy of the Seventh Fire, and many other revered teachings, the Native Peoples of the Americas are in a time of renewal and resurgence regarding their “treaties with creation” – honoring reciprocal relationships with their inter-species kin, landscapes, and ancestral places in a time of great challenge.
