ABSTRACT

A fine line exists between what might be defined as formal and non-formal education and training. They are more like two ends of a continuum than one or the other. Similarly, the relationship between formal and non-formal may be akin to yin and yang. They may appear as opposite or contrary forces, but they are actually complementary. Therefore, while we have chosen to structure this book in separate sections, education and training in outdoor studies have a good deal of overlap.
