ABSTRACT

Many communities across Africa have experienced war and conflict that left physical, psychological, emotional, mental and social devastation to those affected (Kaviti, 2009). Leaders often rush to military solutions to address conflicts and demonstrate national strength. Not surprisingly, violence often becomes an acceptable way for people to express frustration, domination and control (JustFaith Ministries, 2012). However, Reich and Pivovarov (1994) observed, ‘Since wars begin in the minds of men [sic.], it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed’ (p. 11). Therefore, education can be an instrument of acculturation to peace.
