ABSTRACT
Outdoor studies cannot be complete without consideration of social and environmental thought, and how outdoor studies might be located within these discourses. This introduction presents brief overviews of diverse frameworks that may inform outdoor studies, highlighting contradictions and complexities. We explore how the social, environmental and spiritual interrelate and thus indicate webs of connection to which outdoor studies, nature-based sport and outdoor learning are integral.
