ABSTRACT

Every new democracy has its own bright story to celebrate, as well as dark sides of history to reckon with. Taiwan is no exception. Though Taiwan’s democratization process has been peaceful and successful, its record of righting the historical wrongs has been not so impressive. After two instances of power turnover since 2000, Taiwan’s young democracy may be regarded as consolidated against many criteria. Nevertheless, the realization of transitional justice in Taiwan is far from complete.
