The developmental state and Taiwan

The story of Taiwan’s postwar transformation is inextricably tied to the origins, evolution and future prospects of the developmental state. Once an economic basket case, Taiwan now ranks among the richest societies in Asia. It is politically governed in a thriving and vital democracy, and economically, its firms are climbing the global value chain in a variety of sectors. Taiwan is deserving of the moniker “miracle.”
