ABSTRACT

Understanding coping strategies and psychological skills employed by elite athletes is paramount to the development and implementation of psychological programs that facilitate optimal performance (see Chapter 14). In Chapter 21 we provided an overview general measurement considerations in sport psychology, and summarized dispositional measures of motivation, personality, mood, anxiety, and attentional style that contribute to elite sport performance. The current chapter serves as an extension to Chapter 21 by focusing on measures of coping, emotional states, mood regulation, emotion regulation, psychological skills, and efficacy in elite sport.
