ABSTRACT

The Shakespearean world of music addresses a global audience without borders. Within this world, various contested binaries emerge: between text and performance; between live and recorded performance; and between vision and sound. In some cases, multiple genres intersect to create a hybrid, intermedial art that the phrase “Shakespeare and music” cannot fully encompass.
