ABSTRACT
Ecocriticism is a relatively new academic field that reads Shakespeare’s work through the double lens of modern ecology and environmentalism. Like all interpretations from conceptual perspectives – historical, post-colonial, feminist, post-human – it applies contemporary knowledge to Shakespeare’s writings, in this case to rediscover early modern ecologies and to use the playwright’s narrative and poetic insights to illuminate present-day environmental issues.
