ABSTRACT

Global female entrepreneurship is performed and researched in a variety of contexts that influence its scope, direction and application. The opportunity inherent in the creation of a volume such as this is the chance to bring together a purposive, yet diverse, attentive focus on the phenomenon in question. In so doing, the collective knowledge represented in the volume is a reflection of what we know now, as well as an insight into the potential development pathways for knowledge generation in the future. It is also a textual representation of the current landscape of enquiry with a variety of significant markers embedded within it. For example, contributions from leading scholars, indicators of current foci of interest, and samples that reflect diversity across many spectra, all acknowledge and reveal the significant role of context in relation to practice. In this introductory chapter, we consider some of these contexts and their implications for practice, research and training.
