ABSTRACT

Asia holds over 60 per cent of all new TB cases in the world. The top three countries with the highest burdens of TB are all in Asia, namely India, China and Indonesia. However, TB prevalence rates in Asian countries are much lower than in the Sub-Saharan African countries due to the relatively low HIV prevalence in Asia. TB is curable and preventable and under the World Health Organization’s TB Programme, over 85 per cent of TB cases can be cured with six months of treatment.
