ABSTRACT

Viral hepatitis is an infectious disease caused by several different kinds of hepatovirus. Mostly it causes prolonged infl ammation and necrotic lesions in the liver. It is highly contagious with a high incidence in Southeast Asia and is widely transmitted via complex routes. To date, fi ve types of hepatitis have been discovered: hepatitis A to E. Among these, hepatitis A and E generally cause acute hepatitis, while hepatitis B, C and D may be related to acute or chronic hepatitis, and most likely lead to cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).
