The near consensus among political theorists is that a healthy democracy in no small part depends on the participation of citizens with necessary knowledge. However, attaching knowledge requirements to democracy that by nature presupposes equality is paradoxical. In fact, if participation in political decision-making is based on required knowledge, applying the term epistemocracy instead of democracy is more fitting. 1
