Ecofeminist Political Economy

Ecological feminist political economy is an alternative way of looking at economies that puts forward proposals for meeting human needs in ways that are ecologically sustainable and socially just. It also provides a critique of current economies and mainstream economics that challenges conventional economics’ claim to be a value free science. Instead of seeing economies as natural forms based on universal economic laws, ecofeminist political economy sees modern economies as ecologically unsustainable and socially unjust. Current economic structures are not naturally emerging immutable facts, but gendered human constructs. Central to an ecofeminist approach to political economy is the critique of those current economic structures including the concept ‘economy’ itself. It also challenges economics to return to its roots as a critical perspective.
