ABSTRACT

Resilience in agriculture is essential for the long-term sustainability of crop production. Ecologically, agricultural resilience leads to a more stable, functioning agricultural system that ensures production, food security, and environmental cycling (Matson et al., 1997, Altieri, 1999). Socially, agricultural resilience leads to stable production levels that protect social structures and economic systems at various scales (Adger, 2000; Marshall, 2010). The combination of these two factors elevate the need to create and maintain environmental and social agricultural structures that can withstand and recover from unwanted shocks that threaten the long-term sustainability of agriculture.
