ABSTRACT
When considering the achievements of African American artists in the field of printmaking, two aspects must be considered, the importance technical collaborations played early on and the sense of community it created in the absence of institutional support. Both of these aspects were important to the nurturing of diverse ideas of process and aesthetics, and the interaction among artists of different generations and backgrounds.
