ABSTRACT

The contributions made in this handbook by our authors have shone a light on how Indigenous populations around the world fare with regards to wellbeing. They have shown us what works and what doesn’t. But importantly, they have provided guidance on what we can do to improve the lives of Indigenous people. The news is not always bad and there is much to be learnt from the good things that people and governments do. Sometimes, the news is not as positive, but here we need to take stock of the lessons and rather than engage in more overblown rhetoric, we need to research, understand, reflect and take decisive collaborative action. Below, we provide a summary of the respective domains of wellbeing by region. We hope that this will give you both a picture of how Indigenous people are faring, but also what actions are being undertaken or should be undertaken to improve the lives of the Indigenous people of that region.
