ABSTRACT

The freedom of expression (FE hereinafter) is a fundamental right whose forms of interference occur in various types and degrees in countries of the American continent (→ Human Rights, II/35). In addition to repressive norms, access limitations to government public information, and financial restrictions, in many countries of the continent (particularly in Latin America) violence and coercion against journalists and media are persistent (→ Journalism, III/32). Thus, lack of resources to achieve a diversity of voices and the antagonism of the state and other powers are FE problems still coexisting in most American countries.
