ABSTRACT

There is no “one-size fits all” regarding the shape that migration-related diversity takes in cities. Therefore, this chapter seeks to contribute to this emerging literature on the diversity of diversities in cities, by developing a typology of cities of migration. To do so, it first takes stock of current literature on cities of migration, and sketches the main challenges or transformations that cities face. Subsequently, it sketches four different types of cities of migration, based on different shapes of migration-related diversity in these cities: new cities of migration, minority cities, immigrant cities and superdiverse cities.
