ABSTRACT

This chapter will focus on how strengthening the mentorship experiences of LGBTQ individuals in health career tracks—namely medicine—can positively impact the health of the LGBTQ community. Mentoring on both a personal and professional level can foster a particular resilience that is essential for sexual and/or gender minorities navigating through academic, workplace, and healthcare environments. After reading this chapter, the author hopes that more academic health centers will implement LGBTQ inclusive policies and programs. The author will focus on three stages in one’s career: the undergraduate, graduate, and professional level.
