ABSTRACT

At its very heart, football is simply a game played between two competing teams, from which a victor emerges. Strip the game back even further and there are thousands, possibly millions, of kids who enjoy nothing more than kicking a ball against a wall. Whatever the contents of this book, one should not forget the simple basis for a sport that has become the world’s favourite, which some oft-quoted individuals have labelled as being beautiful and a matter more important than life or death. Perhaps its simplicity and purity has allowed football to capture the world’s affections, like no other form of popular culture.
